John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (NIV)

Today’s devotion is short and sweet. Many people believe that when they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior immediately their life will go from difficulty to pixies and roses. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case. But what believing in Jesus Christ will get you is peace in turmoil, joy through troubles and a secure place in Heaven. The true gift of receiving Jesus Christ (outside of salvation) is that He fills the God-sized hole that was in your heart before you knew Him (a hole that nothing in this world can satisfy). The believer can endure persecutions in the world because Jesus promised to send us the Helper, who will strengthen us. Jesus tells us that we will have affliction on this earth, but ultimately, we will be victorious (as we look towards eternity, we gain comfort in that certainty. John 15:20, Acts 14:22). The way we respond to trials with His peace, is a testament to nonbelievers of how great our God is.

If you’re going through a rough time, believe that the Lord will change your circumstances. While you wait on Him, find comfort in His Word. I’ll leave you with these verses from Paul.

The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. (Romans 8:16-18)

Dear Father, I understand that even as Your child, my life will not be devoid of problems. Thank You for the Holy Spirit, who gives me strength and comfort through difficulty. As I wait on You to deliver me, help me to remember the eternal joy I will experience in Your presence. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
