2 Timothy 1:9, “For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was His plan from before the beginning of time – to show us His grace through Christ Jesus.” (NLT)

Often, we’ll say God I deserve this and that, but we should thank God that He doesn’t truly deal with us according to what we “deserve”. If we examined our lives to see how much we fall short, we would thank God more often that He doesn’t exercise His wrath against us for our sins. Psalm 103:10 says, “He does not punish us for all our sins; He does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve”. Any discipline we may have to endure right now for disobeying God is better than death and spending eternity in Hell – thank God for His grace, a second chance. We receive new mercies and a new chance every single day to live righteously, don’t take these opportunities for granted.

In today’s verse we see God’s love for us involved our salvation before we were even born. We didn’t have the opportunity to be saved because we deserved it, but rather because of God’s grace for mankind. God is awesome and worthy of all our worship. Let’s continuously read our Bibles so we may understand what it means to live holy, then fervently go into prayer to ask God to equip and give us the ability (through the power of the Holy Spirit) to obey the Word.

Dear Father, thank You for saving me through my faith in Jesus Christ. Help me to live a life that is holy and pleasing in Your sight. Thank You for Your abundant grace and help me to not take it for granted. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
