Highlighting – “There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.” (v.4-6)
God’s original plan for mankind was for us to live in unity. God commanded Noah and his sons to be fruitful and multiply the earth (Gen 9:1). The people that came out of Noah’s family collectively decided to settle in Shinar and using their “power” in unity, began creating a tower so high that it would reach the Heavens and bring them fame (Gen 11:4). We all know in everything we do we are to do it for His glory, but they sought out their own – their intentions were rooted in pride. From this moment going forward God confused man’s language, causing the physical or better yet, cultural differences we have today.
How is it that we can acquire this unity again? The Bible is a compilation of testimonies depicting God’s redemption plan for mankind, so we see in the Word, God makes it possible for us to regain that unity (to Him and one another) through belief in His Son Jesus Christ. When we accept Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior of our lives, we are immediately sealed by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). If the Holy Spirit is within us and working through us, we should naturally feel a connection to one another. In Ephesians 4 verses 15 through 16, we are encouraged to speak the truth in love and grow up in all ways through the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ. While we are individuals and have different gifts to edify the church with, ultimately, we are to work together for the building up of the church in love. Unity amongst brethren is developed as we gain insight about Christ’s love for us and through the outworking of the Holy Spirit in us (Phil 1:9-11). How will we come to understand Christ’s love? By reading the Word and submission to the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:10-12).
Do you see the power in unity? God said because man worked in unity, there is nothing they can’t do (Gen 11:6). This goes for the righteous men and women in Christ. If we would truly work together in the Spirit to do good and spread the gospel, before you know it, we’ll be experiencing a revival in our cities, states, and around the globe (imagine reliving Acts 2 today!). Additionally, in Matthew 18:19 it says, “Again I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth about anything that they may ask, it shall be done for them by My Father who is in heaven.” If there are sick amongst us and we pray in complete agreement, there’s no way healing will not happen.
The organs in our bodies don’t compete but work with one another fulfilling their purpose, to keep us healthy and alive. The same principle is held with the body of Christ – the Church. We don’t come together to compete but use our gifts for the unified mission to advance the Kingdom of God on earth. Please remember, God is a God of unity. Satan is the author of division.
Dear Father, please remove anything in me that’s causing dissension or division with my brothers and sisters in Christ. I want to dwell in unity of the Spirit with others as You want me to. I want to grow to be more like Christ every day. Convict me of habits I need to break that cause me to lead a life contrary to Your will for me. May I completely surrender to You and abide in You, so I may be one with all the saints. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
Amen… God bless you abundantly and covers you under his almighty Shadow !!!
Be an ESTHER in the work of God!!!
