1 Samuel 17:32-37

Highlighting – “Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” (v.36-37)

I truly enjoyed reading this chapter in Samuel, I hope you do too! My encouragement to you reading this is that the difficulties you face in life are not without reason. David encountered a lion and a bear before he faced the real giant, Goliath. Why is this so significant? Because God grew David’s faith and strength behind the scenes to prepare him for the major battle in his life that would not only save the army of Israel but bring glory to the one true God. When we feel as though we escape one problem just to enter another, there is a purpose in the obstacle, and during these seasons we should ask God what is this teaching me or preparing me for? In the end, you will have the victory. Also, what David experienced in private qualified him for the public fight. He didn’t have the resume that the other soldiers had in skill, but he had the experience of leading sheep and defending them. He also had the best network anyone could ever have living in him, God Himself – God was all the “skill” that David needed to win. It really can’t get any better than that! That last point was worthy of a praise break!

Whenever I’m confronted with an obstacle in my life, I’ve learned to ask God to give me an awesome testimony to help others when I come out on the other side. Our lives won’t ever be perfect on this earth, but while we are still here, we can make the most of every situation, if we keep a positive outlook. Whatever you’re going through, lean on God wholeheartedly, and I want to tell you as my dad always tells me and my sisters, “One day, it will be past tense”.

Dear Father, I know that the Christian life will never be devoid of problems. Teach me how to endure difficulty with patience, knowing that You’re taking me through a process that will ultimately purify me, grow my strength, and faith in You. I look forward to sharing my testimony so that others may be encouraged in Christ. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
