Highlighting – “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (v.32)
Faith in Jesus Christ leads to knowing Him. When you know Him, you are set free from your bondage to sin and become a new creature in Him (2 Corinthians 5:17). When you express your faith in Jesus Christ and receive Him in your heart, the Holy Spirit seals you as a child of God, and you begin to grow in sanctification. The process of growing in sanctification is to peel away the things of the world from our lives, die to our flesh daily and grow in righteousness.
I want to emphasize that you don’t receive freedom until you know Jesus Christ. What is tied into knowing Him is following His teachings, only then, do we demonstrate that we are His disciples. We should desire to be like Christ in our thoughts, attitudes, words and deeds. The same way He aimed to please His Father while on earth, our hearts (by the power of the Holy Spirit at work in us), will want that.
Again, when you know the Truth, Jesus Christ (John 14:6), you will be set free from enslavement to sin and truly begin to live (spiritually). Come to this liberating faith. You will reap the benefits of it, which is eternal life in Heaven. There’s nothing better than that.
“But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.” (Romans 6:17-18)
Dear Father, thank You for Your Son, Jesus Christ dying on the cross for me to give me new life. Thank You for Your love towards me that I do not deserve. Your grace is too great for me to grasp. Thank You for setting me free from the entanglement of sin. Help me to continuously walk on the path You have set before me. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
