Romans 8:26-27

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

Have you ever experienced wanting to pray, kneeling, closing your eyes, and yet, you don’t know what to say? I’ve gone through that many times, but these verses always give me comfort. When I don’t know what to say to God, I find that when I ask God to help me pray, He does. I’ll remember the prayer requests of my family, friends, church members, etc, and before I know it, I’m 30 minutes into deep prayer. And when I truly don’t know what to say, God is able to see the hidden longings of my heart that I can’t utter…He’s so amazing.

Sometimes we pray and become discouraged when things aren’t happening the way we would want them to, but have you ever considered whether that prayer request was the will of God? One aspect of unanswered prayers is that we are not praying for the right things. But God blessed us with the gift of His Spirit because He knew we would need the help, strength and guidance on how to ask according to His will. I want to remind you today to not be discouraged, you have the best advocate on your side – the Holy Spirit. Remain connected to Him because apart from Him you can do nothing (John 15:5).

Make a habit every time you pray, to allow the Holy Spirit to guide your prayers (completely surrender to Him). Then your prayers will be powerful and effective. Today’s devotion is short and sweet. Take time out to revel in the presence of God.

Dear Father, thank You for the gift of Your Spirit. You continue to demonstrate Your love for us by dwelling in every believer. I’m not worthy of your grace, mercy and provision. Thank You! In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
