John 7:37-39

37 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” 39 By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.”

In Monday’s devotion, we saw that God provides for us by giving us His Spirit. Today, we see how the Holy Spirit is living water that flows out of believers. That means, anyone who meets us, should experience that living water. When we speak, it should be edifying to all who hear us (Ephesians 4:29). There should be a difference in an individual’s contact with us compared to non-believers. We should desire to share the living water that we’ve experienced with others.

Even further, Jesus says, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink.” At one point in our lives we were thirsty, we sought something to bring us satisfaction that only Jesus Christ could fill. Now that we’ve accepted Him as our Lord and Savior, we are eternally satisfied because of the power of the Holy Spirit in us – the living water (John 4:14).

There’s a satisfaction that we receive in Christ, that we won’t receive from any other source (e.g. children, spouses, friends, jobs, finances, vacations, etc). I pray that we would have full satisfaction in God and God alone, knowing that all the other blessings we receive in this lifetime are just supplementary to Him – the real deal.

Dear Father, thank You for the living water You placed in me. I desire to be completely satisfied in You. My spiritual thirst is satisfied by you alone. Help me to realize that when I feel as though I’m “missing something”, that maybe it’s because I’ve neglected spending time with you and need to remember that You are my first love. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
