Highlighting – “So then he told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead, and for your sake I am glad I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.” (v. 14-15)
“Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me.” (v. 40-41)
This chapter has so many gems in it, but I will only mention two. A quick overview, Mary and Martha had a sick brother named, Lazarus. They sent word to the One they loved, Jesus, knowing that He could heal him. But when Jesus heard the news, He waited two more days before responding and returning to Judea (where Lazarus was). By the time He arrived, Lazarus had been dead and in the tomb 4 days. Skip to the end of this story, Jesus prays, calls Lazarus to come out of the tomb, and he comes back to life.
Jesus Christ’s delay in responding to their “prayer” (I guess you could call it), was not because they or Lazarus sinned, but simply for the glory of God to be put on display. Even further, we see in Jesus’ prayer in verses 40 through 42, that it was to make clear to everyone watching that God works in impossible situations for all who call upon Him in belief. Notice in Jesus’ prayer, He praised God and spoke in a confident manner that God has already heard Him (past tense). How strong is your faith in God? Do you doubt that God hears you and can change your seemingly dead situation?
God, at times, will allow us to reach a point (in a situation) where human effort ends, and His glory begins. He finds the most opportune time to remind you of who He is, when there can be no human solution, but you can only rely on Him. I pray whatever you’re going through in this moment, that you would find comfort in trusting God and His power. On the other side of your deliverance, your faith will be stronger and will help you in future situations.
Dear Father, I realize that what seems like a delay to the answer of my prayers will result in Your ultimate glory. I thank You in advance for the testimony that is loading, and I desire that it would serve as a source of encouragement to anyone else going through difficulty in life. You are faithful to give us Your best. I trust in You for the outcome. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
