Psalm 119:103 – 106

Highlighting – “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” (v.105)

I absolutely love these verses because David describes his admiration for the Word of God and how he will not delight in falsity because he is enlightened by the truth. How many of us can claim, as it says in Psalm 119:97, that we LOVE God’s Word and meditate on it all day? Delight in the Lord…do we? Delight means you find great pleasure or satisfaction in Him. David delights in the Lord simply for who He is, not for what He can do for him, and hates all evil because God does. The Word of God kept him on a straight path, as it now does for us. Don’t you find that the more you read the Word and pray, the more at peace you feel? You’re not confused as to what the will of God is for you because it’s written in this Guide and He speaks to your heart which way to go (Isaiah 30:21).

I heard a great quote relating to “light”, which says, “the Word of God is a light that exposes imperfections”. Then, Charles Stanley (love him) said in a sermon that “Light exposes the darkness, exposes error for what it is. It (light) shows the truth of it (darkness). Don’t you have friends who are unsaved who will invite you to some things, but wouldn’t dare invite you to other things? Your very presence makes them uncomfortable. Your presence reminds them of what ought to be. You don’t want to have any holy reminders if you want to have fun.” Once I heard it for the second time, how light exposes darkness, it reminded me of what reading the Bible does for us – it exposes our imperfections to us so we may see the way God would like us to live – as Christ did. This is why the enemy tries to keep us distracted from reading God’s Word, because He doesn’t want us to change our ways.

If you read your Bible and you’re never convicted by it of what you need to change about yourself, then it’s safe to assume you’re perfect or the Word isn’t penetrating your heart. Also, we are the light of the World, to draw others nearer to God, not away from Him. And we do one or the other by our words and deeds, and the lack there of. Do not hide the Light within you but let it shine before everyone, so they may see your good works and glorify your God in Heaven (Matthew 5:14 – 16).

Dear Father, my heart and soul delights in You and Your Word. May Your Light never be dim within me, but shining brighter than ever, drawing everyone I encounter closer to You. God, help me to grow in knowledge of Your Word so I better understand who You are. Help me to make worshiping You my lifestyle. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
