Highlighting – “Therefore, as it is written: ‘Let the one who boasts boast in the Lord.’” (v.31)
We did not receive eternal life due to our own efforts, but through our faith in Jesus Christ. If it wasn’t for God sending His Son to die on the cross for us, we would all be condemned. Knowing this, we are not to boast in our own efforts as Christians, but in the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ that has justified us before God. We were made righteous when we believed in Jesus, now we commit righteous acts to be set apart and holy for God’s use in His kingdom (Romans 12:1-2). Even then, we do not commit righteous acts on our own accord, but through the enabling power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us to make us Christ-like (Philippians 2:13; Romans 8:13, we put to death the deeds of the flesh by the Spirit; Ephesians 2:10). Thank God we can’t boast in our works for attaining salvation, then we would all have a holier than though mindset, which is not of Christ. Jesus Christ in every way was humble and even though He was perfect, He attributed everything about Himself to God – always giving God the glory.
May we be more Christ-like in our conduct not seeking to give praise to ourselves or seeking the praise of men, but seeking praise from God through our thoughts, attitude, words and actions.
Dear Father, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for us. I have no reason to boast in myself, but I will boast in Jesus and His ability to save all mankind. Help me to bring unbelievers to You through my faith in Him. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
