Luke 7:1 – 10

Highlighting – “Now Jesus started on His way with them; and when He was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying to Him, “Lord, do not trouble Yourself further, for I am not worthy for You to come under my roof; for this reason I did not even consider myself worthy to come to You, but just say the word, and my servant will be healed.” (v.6 – 7)

I love this passage. We see here a man who not only understands Jesus’ power and authority, but also believes in His ability to heal simply through uttering a word. In the beginning of the passage, he sent Jewish elders to Jesus to plead his case and save his servant from death. What I noted was the way they implored Jesus by exclaiming how “worthy” and good the man was. Jesus concedes by turning from the elders and walking towards the centurion’s home. The portion that stood out to me was the centurion’s humility, while others regarded him so highly. He then sends his friends to meet Jesus on the road to say he wasn’t worthy for Him to stand in his home. BUT if Jesus was willing, he asked Jesus to speak healing and he knew his servant would be made well. A man’s humility and faith in Jesus’ power and authority, brought deliverance to his home in the form of salvation, spiritually and physically.

In the verses that follow, the soldier demonstrates his understanding of Jesus’ authority, because he was a man who exercised authority over others as well. So, if he knew anything about this Jesus, it was that He could do the impossible just by His word. The centurion’s faith was so great, Jesus felt the need to comment on it and make an example of his testimony to the crowd following Him. Jesus’ emphasis on not finding such faith even in Israel, means this is the type of faith we should emulate. Great faith is believing in what you have yet to see, as well as believing in the One you’re looking to for the deliverance. Place all of your faith in Him today! Remember, always have faith in your Savior, Jesus Christ, who’s living inside of you and has authority over everything (Matthew 28:18). Trust in His ability to perform a miracle in your life at any moment on any given day. As the 10 lepers, get up and start walking in your healing, knowing that it is already done – praise Him in advance!

Dear Father, thank You for Your Son Jesus Christ! Help me to grow in complete faith in His power and authority. As I continue to develop in my faith, please help me to remain humble in spirit because true humility comes when I’m filled with Your Holy Spirit and surrendered to Him. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
