Matthew 14:22 – 33
Highlighting – “But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” (v.30)
Despite the turbulent weather, Peter trusted Jesus’ command to come to Him and stepped out of the boat heading towards Jesus. But we quickly see Peter lost sight of Him by focusing his attention on the tempest around him, as soon as this happened, he began to sink.
How many of us pray about a situation and have all the faith in the world that God is going to answer our petition? Then, when we don’t receive an answer within a specific time frame or we seem to keep encountering the same disappointment repeatedly, we start believing that things won’t change, and God doesn’t hear us. Why does this happen? Because we begin to focus our attention on the circumstance rather than God. I’d like for all of us to learn from Peter today, the moment we begin to dwell on our present circumstances, we will immediately feel discouraged, lack of faith, fear and loss of hope – we will sink. Instead, fix your eyes on Jesus no matter what, and you will be able to walk through the storm with courage because you trust in God to deliver. “Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God” (Psalm 42:11).
Father, help me to keep my focus on heavenly things, on Jesus Christ. I am going through a tough time right now, but I know You will give me peace through the storm as long as I continue to seek You. I rebuke all discouragement and fear in Jesus name, knowing the unrest around me will come to an end. I trust You and have faith You will turn my weeping into joy. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
