Psalm 24:1 – 2, “The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, the world, and those who dwell in it. For He has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers.” (NASB)

When we look at everything around us, what we “own,” none of it is ours. I may have finished paying off my car and officially “own” it under my name, but it’s not truly for me. According to today’s text, God has established all things, therefore, all of it is His. So, the money we have in our bank accounts belongs to Him, as well as the homes we live in. God blesses us so that we will use what He gives us for His glory.

We have brought nothing into this world, nor have we given to God that we could expect repayment (Romans 11:35 – 36; 1 Timothy 6:7), but He has given to us and we repay Him by using our blessings for the advancement of His Kingdom and His glory. God has freely given us by no merit of our own, but His unconditional love for us. As Abraham was blessed to be a blessing, I believe we are, too, and in our generosity, we will prosper (Proverbs 11:25). We should bless others expecting nothing in return. When it comes to serving others, we shouldn’t have a problem sharing or lending because what we have is from God. We read in Luke 6 the importance in giving even to our enemies, not only those we favor (check out verses 31 – 35).

As it says in Proverbs 11 verse 28, “He who trusts in his riches will fall, but the righteous will flourish like the green leaf” (NASB). Where your heart is, could either be to your demise or your benefit. If your heart is set on the things of this earth, it will lead to spiritual death, but Paul exhorts us to set our minds on things above (Colossians 3:2) because in seeking His Kingdom and righteousness, there is life.

Dear Father, help me to remember that every blessing I receive from You is for Your glory. I am blessed to give You full ownership of what I have and prove my understanding of this concept by my acts of service to others. Help me to keep my mind on You and things above, while also being a cheerful giver. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.
