Highlighting – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” (v.6)
Paul is exhorting us in this passage to not worry. Then he gives us a practical way to keep from worrying, first through prayer, then by redirecting our focus to what is true, noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable – Jesus Christ. Ultimately, the order of removing worry from our lives is by giving it to God and thanking Him in the process of laying our requests at His feet. Following prayer, we intentionally change what our mind is fixed on.
Worry stems from a fear that you have. Fear that you won’t have enough of money to pay a bill. Fear a need won’t be met at the proper time. Fear of loss. We worry because we don’t see how something will fall into place. This worry says to God that you doubt He is working on your case, and that He can deliver you. 1 Corinthians 10:26 says, “For the earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains”. Everything in Heaven and on Earth belongs to God, you really think He can’t provide what you need, when you need it? God promises us in Scripture, that He will supply all our needs according to the riches of His glory in Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:19). Oftentimes, if you feel He’s delayed in answering your prayer, it’s because He is putting you in a position to realize that only He has delivered you and deserves all the glory. Trust Him. God has your back and whatever His answer, know that it is for your good and based on His omniscience.
Worry removes the joy from our lives that God wants us to experience through Him. What are you worried about today? What can you replace that worry with? Think of something positive and keep that thought in mind every time anxiety strikes. You already have the victory in Jesus Christ. Now act like you know that fact (even if you don’t see it yet, Hebrews 11:1), and walk in that victory.
Dear Father, thank You for looking out for me. Thank You for being involved in every detail of my life. Help me to develop my faith in You. Help my unbelief. I have no reason to worry because You can do the impossible. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
