Deuteronomy 6:5, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” (ESV)
Today’s devotion is inspired by a Charles Stanley sermon I listened to sometime ago. Several times throughout my life I’ve stopped to ask God to show me how to love Him. When you know the benefits of being a child of God and the blessings you can receive when you obey Him, it’s possible to get caught up in serving Him for blessings as opposed to serving Him for who He is/because you love Him. I’ve had to ask myself before doing His Kingdom work, what is my motivation for doing this? Is it to give God all the glory?
Are your intentions to receive a specific thing from God? If so, will you continue to serve Him long after you’ve received what you’ve been asking Him for? Are your intentions entirely pure?
Unconditional consistency proves real love. Our love for God is demonstrated in our faithfulness to Him through the good days and the trials we must endure.
Dear Father, show me how to love You. Help me to understand what it means to love You and my brothers and sister in Christ. I desire to die to my flesh daily and live in Christ. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
