Highlighting – “Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have taunted. This day the Lord will deliver you up into my hands, and I will strike you down and remove your head from you. And I will give the dead bodies of the army of the Philistines this day to the birds of the sky and the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the Lord does not deliver by sword or by spear; for the battle is the Lord’s and He will give you into our hands.” (v.45 – 47)
There are circumstances where you feel as if you’ve been confronted with a giant in your life, you might currently be facing a “Goliath”. In today’s reading, I believe we Christians should be encouraged when confronted with conflict to trust in God entirely. David knew, even though he was much smaller than Goliath and ill-equipped, that he would win the battle simply because he trusted that God would show His power and might through him. David didn’t mention anything about his name being written in the history books, nor was he boastful about his own strength. Rather, he directed all attention to God so all people would understand God’s ability and glory. His response to Goliath didn’t come from pride, but his belief in the Almighty, matchless God, who has authority over EVERYTHING. He knew of the God he served and because he had that God inside of him, he could in turn do great things because of His power working through him. David could speak in such a way to Goliath because as I said before, he knew God.
Do you trust God wholeheartedly? Do you believe that you know Him as He desires you to? While we will never be able to fully know God (Job 36:26), when we have a relationship with Him, He will do for us (believers) as He did for David. David “fought from a position of victory, not FOR victory” – the battle was already won! Whatever you’re going through today, know that in Jesus Christ, the victory is yours! As my dad always says, one day it will be past tense.
Dear Father, thank You for the position of victory You’ve already placed me in when I believed in Your Son Jesus Christ. I know whatever Goliath is in my way today, I have already defeated by Your strength and will keep my trust in You. Thank You in advance for delivering me. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
