1 Peter 3:13 – 17

Highlighting – “Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.” (v.15)

Peter is exhorting us in the text today to always do good even in suffering, so that when the time comes for us to defend our hope (Jesus Christ), we can do so by our testimony to endure all circumstances. When unbelievers see us, they will notice something different about us and ask, why are we happy in the most difficult situations? In that moment, we can testify that we look towards Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of our faith, who gives us hope to a better life when we meet Him in Heaven. This assurance that we have is a promise made only to those who believe in Jesus Christ and have accepted Him as their Lord and Savior.

If we truly believe in this hope that we have in Jesus Christ, we (ideally) should be excited to share what we know about Him with others (as much as we want to tell our friends about a huge sale going on at Target or about the next best technology coming out). May we be motivated to go out and make disciples for Jesus Christ. I read an awesome quote the other day by Penn Jillette, “How much do you have to hate somebody to believe everlasting life is possible and not tell them?” This resonated with me. We have the cure to spiritual death, and if we love others, we’ll give them that cure. Please share Jesus Christ with at least one person today. Meditate on the Word of God day and night, and commune with Him in prayer, He will give you the courage to share the Good News.

Dear Father, help me to share the Gospel as much as I can. I want to help others draw nearer to You by my testimony and my actions. Help me to be more diligent in my Bible study and quiet time with you, so I mature spiritually. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
