Proverbs 27:19, “As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart.”
What is stored up in the heart is what proceeds out of your mouth (Matthew 15:18). A person that leads a life of practicing sin, then that’s what their heart is full of. But someone who leads a life of love, righteousness, justice, forgiveness, and mercy, then their heart is full of the Holy Spirit, who is making it possible for them to bear fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). This is why I believe Jesus says to the disciples in Matthew 22:37, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Because from the heart, it’s genuine, and their actions will flow from that. The life or character of a person reflects who they truly are. Therefore, we shouldn’t only listen to the words that come out of someone’s mouth but give more attention to what they live and do – that will prove whose they are.
Do a self-check and ask God to convict you of any area in your life where your words aren’t in alignment with what you practice. Always remember, “you are what you love”, and your character is molded by what’s deep in your heart.
Dear Father, purify my heart and mind to be more like Christ. Remove anything in me that is not of your Holy Spirit. I desire to be fully submitted to You. Please God help me to live in the Spirit and not in the flesh, so that my actions demonstrate that I am a Christian. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
