Luke 16:12, “And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?”

According to the Oxford dictionary, stewardship is supervising or taking care of something. It’s important to God how we take care of the blessings and gifts He’s given us. If we show gratitude and contentment with what we have, we’ll receive more. In the realm of ministry, if God sees that we steward the position we’re in well, the gift He’s given us, and His sheep well, He’ll enlarge our territory and expand our level of impact. We must first prove faithful.

In today’s verse, I love that Luke mentions your treatment of other people’s property. This stems back to the foundation of the Gospel, love (loving God first and loving your neighbors). If you love your neighbor, you will care for their belongings as if it were yours. For example, you might not be the pastor of the church you attend, but your level of care for the church building (where you worship Him) is pleasing to God and noted by Him. At the end of the day, in everything we do, we are to do unto the Lord (Colossians 3:23-24). When we’re seeking a blessing and haven’t received an answer yet from God, we should ask ourselves, are we good stewards of what God has already given us? Would He say to me, “Well done, good and faithful servant…” (Matthew 25:23)?

Dear Father, I desire to be a good steward of what You’ve given me. Help me to realize it’s a privilege to do the work You’ve entrusted to me. I desire to please You in everything that I do. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
