Philippians 3:12-14

Highlighting – “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” (v. 14)

We as Christians, sometimes get so caught up in things of this world, we forget that we are heavenly citizens and the ultimate goal is receiving an eternal reward in heaven. Paul speaks of a victor’s crown of righteousness that we will receive from God on “that day” (2 Timothy 4:8). We must persevere in righteousness and seek God’s Kingdom with all our heart, mind and soul. There’s nothing wrong with desiring to receive your college or graduate degree, desiring a promotion at work, to start a business, etc, but be careful to not be attached to things of this world so that you don’t lose sight of the real goal, which is heaven. Matthew 6:19-21, admonishes us to not store up for ourselves treasures on this earth where they won’t last, but store up treasures in heaven where they will last. Additionally, where our treasure is, that’s where our heart is and God desires our hearts. So, what is your pursuit today?

Dear Father, help me to keep my mind and heart on You. In all of my pursuits, help me to remember the most important pursuit is the eternal reward that I will receive in heaven. Thank You for salvation and the promise of a future life with You through faith in Your Son. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
