Ecclesiastes 11:9-10, “You who are young, be happy while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment. 10 So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless.” (NIV)

The book of Ecclesiastes has a ton of gems – I truly enjoyed reading this book. Here, we are being admonished by the author to enjoy our youth because life is fleeting. If there is any time to enjoy our lives, it is today. How often do you worry about tomorrow? But God tells us that tomorrow is not our own (Matthew 6:25-33; Proverbs 27:1). In verse 10, we are told to remove the anxiety from our hearts and troubles off of our bodies. In the end, all the worry is meaningless because this life is not meant to be forever – the earth is not our home, but heaven is. While enjoying our youth, we must not forget that doesn’t mean we’re free to do whatever we want, whenever we want. God will bring everything we do into judgment, so we must be vigilant and watchful of our conduct, words, thoughts and attitudes. Have you lost a lot of your youth in worrying? One thing you can never get back is time once it’s lost, so make the most of it today and pursue your goals, don’t wait for tomorrow – tomorrow is not promised.

Dear Father, help me to number my days so that I may grow a heart of wisdom. Help me to not give into worry or anxiety, but to cast all my burdens onto You. Thank You for sustaining me and keeping me. Help me to always remember that tomorrow is not promised. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
