Matthew 18:19, “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” (NIV)

Today we will continue with the theme of unity. I believe unity is so important in the Christian faith because it embodies the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit). Each member has distinct roles, yet function in unity with one purpose, and is God. The New Testament often refers to the local church as the body of Christ, each member of the local church has a function as the different parts of the body, but work in unity, to advance the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all who would hear, and keep the members edified and growing in the faith (as our organs, etc function in unity to keep us healthy and alive).

In today’s verse, this unity should continue when we come together with anyone in prayer. If you ever need prayer about any area in your life, Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:19, that if two people agree on anything they ask for, it will be done for them. What is important here is, agreement. When we pray, are we in alignment? There is much blessing that comes from praying in unity as we can see in this verse.

When you go to pray with others today, please ensure you’re approaching God with the right heart as well. For instance, husbands and wives, if you want God to hear your prayers make sure when you’re praying together as a family that your heart posture is pure in His sight, then, ensure that you’re on the same page in your prayers. Please note, I’m not saying you will get an instant answer to your prayers (this isn’t a magic trick), but that prayers made in unity and with pure hearts are pleasing to Him.

Dear Father, help us to grow in unity daily. Your Kingdom is about unity not division, and we are Kingdom stewards. Help us to walk in accordance with your Word. Wherever there is division, remove it, so that our prayers may not be hindered and reach your throne as a sweet aroma. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen!
